Bleeding heart
2023
Acrylic on canvas, 24x24 inches
A commentary on how it feels to be a ‘bleeding heart’ in the wake of tragedy. It can feel helpless, hopeless and carries the weight of guilt as you sit from in place of privilege.
Bleeding hearts are often seen as weak, as soft, and the terminology carries negative connotations. Despite this, a bleeding heart can be reconstrued as someone who cares. Someone who wants to do the right thing and makes an effort to contribute positively to the world.
